ŇThough sad the intelligence - you have no further hope of his being livingÓ

[To Clarinda from George C. Carter]

Mrs. Dumont:

Madam:

I wrote to you last evening to inform you of the reliable news I had just received from the Army in regard to the fate of your husband-  I directed that letter I think to No. 2 Cooper Street, if so, you may not get it, therefore I write this morning again.

If you will call at my office now I will talk with you about your matter - I have the statistics sufficient now for you to proceed to your claims on the Govt.

Your husbandŐs decease has been established – Though sad is the intelligence – you have no further hope of his being living –

Very Respectfully

George C. Carter –
